Coyote system defense

On the XX/XX/2XXX, the 3rd and 4th battalions were deployed to intercept a rebel fleet approaching the Coyote system. The rebel's goal was to recover a kind of chemical or biological weapon, and we couldn't let that happen. The 2nd were deployed in the system itself, in case the enemy made planetfall.

The 3rd and 4th's fleets warped in, led by Vice Admiral Storm, Commander Jesse, and Captain Ares. They were quickly joined by the Defiant. As for my squadron, I flew a fighter, LCpl Saturn flew a bomber, copiloted by LCpl Mirai, who also led the bomber flight, and their gunner seat was manned by RFLM Raven. The last craft in the squadron was a medevac ship, operated by LCpl Cami and Cpl Gumbo.

We warped to the rally point before the enemy, and engaged the rebel fleet in battle the moment they warped in.

The battleships charged foward, weakening the enemy as our squadron charged into battle. The bomber formation immediately started a pass, and despite our defenses, suffered heavy casualties, to the point that it had to be reinforced with more bombers. I quickly went to escort them, leaving the squadron.

Around that time, a battleship attempted to attack the 4th's fleet on their right flank. The bomber formation therefore headed there to take down that battleship. The bombers and flagship's combined assault managed to take it out, but while we did that, enemy bombers downed several of the 3rd's ships. The 4th's flagship also lost shields at that point

As we kept trying to push the enemy ship back, Ares's ship was heavily damaged, and it's hull was breached. Our squadron rushed in for support, retreating, but at that point we came under fire again and had to stop to evacuate the wounded. We ended up taking down the enemy bombers but they had already dealt a great deal of damage.

At this moment, an enemy dreadnought appeared. The entire fleet started firing towards it, and Captain Ares rammed the Dreadnought, self destructing. Ares made it out alive.

The void strider then joined our fleet, and our squadron took that chance to retreat and rearm. I managed to cover our retreat with the help of Gumbo, who was manning the medevac ship's guns

We then started picking up unknown energy signatures.

Our squadron headed out again, despite having lost a lot of our bombers, and I rearmed as well.

The VA located a mysterious blue ship and ordered us to open fire on it, so our squad started blasting it. The blue ship was apparently part of "the remnants". I have no idea what that is, but the Vice admiral apparently knows.

We blasted that ship with all we had, but the bomber formation was intercepted by fighters, and I took them down too late to prevent them from shooting the rest of our bombers down. We managed to evacuate some of their crews, but a lot of them died there, or later from their injuries. Corporals Saturn, Mirai, and Raven were among the evacuated. I covered the evac ship while I could, but at that point Ares's fighter was being pursued and I had to go to support him. I quickly took it down, and quickly went back to the medevac ship.

The defiant rammed the enemy flagship, pinning it down, as we retreated to rearm and take the wounded to safety.

Ares boarded an enemy ship, and Jesse's ship was taking heavy damage. The defiant provided cover . Cami and I headed out, with the medevac ship and a fighter.

We were ordered to evacuate Ares, and so we went to do that. I got hit, but no critical systems were down.

The commander's flagship then detonated itself into the enemy fleet, ensuring victory at the cost of the commander's body. Ares barely managed to evacuate him and he was taken to medbay.

At that point the battle was pretty much over, and enemy forces were retreating. I went back into battle and shot down a few of the remaining fighters, left behind by their forces, but was ordered not to chase them as they retreated.

Overall, the battle was won, as the enemy retreated, but it is hard to call this a success when we suffered heavy casualties and failed at our initial objective of preventing rebels from making planetfall. Let's hope that the rebel forces will be weaker the next time we face them. If not, we might actually lose.
